Admittedly, I'm a big fan of Mixed Martial Arts. But I grew up a boxing fan, and still love the "sweet science" - how could you NOT watch the Kronk fighters and be amazed by Tommy Hearns, Hilmer Kenty, Milton McCrory. The battles with Hagler and even "Sugar Ray" Leonard were epic and I'll always remember that Tommy never stayed on the mat in the first fight against Leonard..that took heart.
So can you be a boxing fan and still enjoy the UFC? Absolutely. Just because it's more than punching doesn't make it any less of a "science". Once you understand the rules and different styles of fighting, you'll come to appreciate why it's the fastest growing sport in the world -- and the Silva/Sonnen rematch got almost 1 million Pay Per View buys.
Jon Anik works for the UFC - covering all the fights for years (first with ESPN). He's a true expert on the sport and a man who's opinion I respect. We talked about the Silva/Sonnen fight - what's next for both of them. Brock Lesnar, Forrest Griffin, GSP and many other angles. Including the Jones/Silva superfight that everyone wants. click here for the interview or use the player below.
And try watching the UFC - the skills and athleticism on display are impressive, and I think if you're a true fan of boxing and keep an open mind you'll discover how much fun these fights are (and what a badass Anderson Silva is...lol)
