James Taylor is joining the ranks of musicians filing suit against their record companies over digital royalties. Taylor has taken Warner Bros. Records, his home from 1969-1979, into Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming the company owns him about $2 million in income from digital sales of the music he released there. The label hasn't commented on the suit, but Taylor joins a growing list of artists, including Peter Frampton and many others, claiming that they should be paid at a different rate for digital sales (50 percent, since the material is considered "leased" rather than owned by the record companies) than for standard album sales.
