TABLOID SAYS EDDIE VAN HALEN WAS IN WORSE SHAPE THAN WE KNEW

9/7/2012

Eddie Van Halen's bout with diverticulitis, which necessitated recent surgery, may have been more serious than his camp let on. The National Enquirer -- so consider the source -- reports that the guitarist was rushed to the hospital after his intestines "exploded," and that he was in "excruciating pain" before being taken into surgery, where part of his small intestine was removed. The culprit, according to the Enquirer, was a special drink Van Halen tried as part of a Master Cleanse Diet to rid his body of toxins; the concoction was made of water, fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper and apparently exacerbated Van Halen's already existing diverticulitis condition. The report said that Van Halen's wife and band publicist Janie Liszewski and his son, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, accompanied him to the hospital. Van Halen is currently recuperating, and the group, which was forced to cancel a Japanese tour, has put all activities on hold until 2013.
