ALL-STAR LINEUP TO SMOKE ON "MACHINE HEAD" TRIBUTE
Carlos Santana, Chickenfoot and even a former band member (Glenn Hughes) will be part of a tribute to Deep Purple's most famous album. "Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head," due out this fall, will feature covers of the iconic 1972 album's songs and will be dedicated to the memory of keyobardist Jon Lord, who passed away in July at the age of 71. Also taking part in the tribute are Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott, guitar hero Steve Vai, and former Guns 'N Roses members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Glenn Hughes was bassist and singer in Deep Purple's Mk.III lineup, two years after "Machine Head" was released. The full track list includes: Carlos Santana, "Smoke On The Water;" Chickenfoot, "Highway Star;" Glenn Hughes, Chad Smith and Luis Maldonado, "Maybe I'm A Leo;" Black Label Society, "Pictures Of Home;" Kings of Chaos (Joe Elliott, Steve Stevens, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum, Arlan Schierbaum), "Never Before;" The Flaming Lips, "Smoke On The Water;" Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa, "Lazy;" Iron Maiden, "Space Truckin';" Metallica, "When A Blind Man Cries;" Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Chad Smith and Lachlan Doley, "Highway Star"...Also on the Purple tip, frontman Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi have announced an August 28 release for "WhoCares," a two CD benefit set that features original material -- including the 2011 singles "Out of My Mind" and "Holy Water" -- as well as selections from throughout their careers, including Purple and Black Sabbath tracks.
