ROLLING STONES SAY THEY'RE READY TO START UP AGAIN -- BUT WON'T SAY WHEN

7/13/2012

The Rolling Stones made their latest comments, but said nothing particularly definitive, about upcoming live shows at the opening of a photo exhibit on Thursday (July 12) in London. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the group's first show, at London's Marquee Club, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts gathered at Somerset House in London, which is displaying photos from the just-published book "Rolling Stones: 50," which runs through August 27. Richards told the BBC that, "There's things in the works. It's definitely happening. But when? I can't say yet. We're playing around with the idea and had a couple of rehearsals -- we've got together and it feels so good." Jagger added to ITN that "We hope we're going to do some gigs this year. We haven't actually finalized them, but we hope we're going to do some gigs. We've done rehearsing, hanging out together and all that discussing so you know, we've been seeing each other quite a lot." The group hasn't played together since wrapping up it's A Bigger Bang Tour in 2006, but it was invited to perform at this year's Summer Olympics in London. But Jagger explained that, "I didn't think, to be honest, we were quite stage ready. We haven't played in a long time and we weren't really stage-ready, and it's a very big gig and it's very risk-taking. I didn't think the band themselves felt they were really ready to do it at this point." One of the rehearsals the Stones had -- during May in New Jersey, shortly before Jagger's appearance hosting "Saturday Night Live" -- was filmed for an upcoming documentary about the group's history. Detroit native Don Was, who's been the Stones' primary co-producer since the mid-90s, played bass during that session. He told The Insider that "it was intoxicating, man. They're the best band ever -- really. It's a joy to play with them. They get a groove going...I was situation just to the left of Keith and hard Charlie on my left and you can ride that all day. It's an amazing groove cushion. It was fun. I was really sorry to see it end." Was, by the way, is hosting his annual all-star revue at the 20th annual Concert of Colors on Saturday night (July 14) at Orchestra Hall. For more about that, visit http://bit.ly/PPR0tS . The Stones have also released another archival live album -- from February 26, 1990 -- as part of its official bootleg series on Google Play.
