Broadway Show Featuring Music by Elton John to Hit Billion Dollar Mark
By: Troy Frisby

Elton John
definitely no longer has to “wait to be king.”

The iconic singer is the reigning King of Broadway, as The Lion King musical is poised to become Broadway’s first $1 billion show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Coincidentally, the milestone will likely be reached nearly 16 years to the day that the show had its first preview back in October 1997.

John and Tim Rice co-wrote the music for the production, which is based on the 1994 Disney movie of the same name.

The singer performed several songs for the animated film of the same name, including “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” all of which are featured in the Broadway adaptation as well.

John is clearly having a moment with the family crowd, as he’s also set to hang with the Muppets next month.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the musician would perform on ABC’s upcoming “Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular.

During the “Spectacular,” the Muppets will be singing “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells,” while Gaga will debut performances of several as-yet-unnamed tracks from her latest album.

The 90-minute special will air on Thanksgiving night, with a special appearance from John, though it is unclear what he will be performing at this time.

The always-busy singer is also in the middle of a U.S. tour, which runs into early December before he heads overseas.
