Rush Was Surprised by Alex Lifeson's Odd Hall of Fame Speech
By: Troy Frisby

Geddy Lee
was as surprised as anyone at his Rush bandmate Alex Lifeson’s speech at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, which came down to just three words: “blah blah blah.”

Classic Rock Magazine reports that Lee and fellow Rush member Neil Peart weren’t given any warning about what guitarist Lifeson was going to say at the ceremony.

“I wish he would have warned us,” Lee recently told the South Town Star. “We could have thought it was planned, as opposed to feeling like maybe he was losing his marbles.”

Still, Lee insists that their induction was in fact a big deal for each of Rush’s members, including Lifeson, adding that he’s glad the band’s fans could get a taste of their “goofy” sense of humor. He credits them for their success and for finally being inducted into the Hall of Fame after 15 years of eligibility.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have such a supportive fan base,” he said. “They have enabled us to carry on for so many years, despite largely being ignored by the mainstream.”

Rush is next set to perform at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Chicago. For more on Rush, head over to the band’s official page.
