Beach Boys icon and musical mastermind Brian Wilson celebrates a birthday today!
Wilson first broke into the music scene when The Beach Boys released their debut album, Surfin’ Safari in 1962, which ranked No. 33 on the Billboard 200 chart and sky-rocketed the band to near-instant fame.
After an extremely successful decade of albums like All Summer Long and Pet Sounds, the latter of which is considered by many to be Wilson’s greatest contribution to music, he stopped touring with band and worked behind the scenes as a songwriter and composer while recovering from a mental breakdown.
During that time, although Wilson was committed to creating music for The Beach Boys and produced several of the band’s albums, he also began to work on music of his own, releasing his first self-titled solo debut in 1988.
After the release of his first album, he went on to record more solo albums, reunite with the Beach Boys and start touring on his own.
Wilson has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Kennedy Center, performed at the Queen’s Jubilee and has been able to work with some of the greatest music icons of our time.
Recently, the legend returned to Capitol Music Group and is in the process of recording his 11th studio album, which will feature guitarist Jeff Beck, his former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and David Marks, among other guests.
Wilson will also be kicking off his summer tour in Atlantic City exactly one month from his birthday. What a way to celebrate!
Brian Wilson is one man who has seen it all, done it all and is looking for more and today we wish him a very special birthday!
