Often called “The Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll,” Stevie Nicks celebrates her 65th birthday today.
Known for her flowy wardrobe, long blonde hair and husky voice, Nicks sang her way into both our hearts and the charts. Joining Fleetwood Mac with her high school classmate and subsequent lover, Lindsey Buckingham, the band’s self-titled 1975 album made Nicks an overnight sensation with classics like “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.”
Continuing to create albums with Fleetwood Mac, including 1977’s Rumours, which earned a Grammy for Album of the Year, Nicks also found solo success with Bella Donna, which topped the Billboard charts in 1981. Featuring hits such as, “Edge of Seventeen” and “Leather and Lace,” the album made Nicksa household name.
The stress of pursuing two careers took its toll on Nicks. Her struggles with drugs and alcohol eventually forced her to take a break from music and focus on her health.
In 1993, Stevie returned to the studio for another solo album, Street Angel. After vowing to never perform together again, the members of Fleetwood Mac reunited in 1997 for a new album and tour that thrilled the band’s loyal fans. The following year, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Her most recent album, 2011’s In Your Dreams, was also made into a documentary that was filmed during the writing and recording of the album, giving fans a closer look into the creative process behind the rock legend.
Currently, Stevie Nicks is back on the road with Fleetwood Mac, and has also recently released some new music with the band that made her famous.
For her amazing style, killer voice and ultimate staying power, we wish Stevie a Happy Birthday!
