Love the Doors? Well, now there’s an app for that!
An exclusive interactive iPad app has been released exclusively to the App Store via Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment, which will put the band’s entire career at the fingertips of fans.
According to the official press release, The Doors App was produced with the help of band members John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, as well as the estate of Jim Morrison, and was created by Robin Hurley and Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman; the man who signed the Doors to Warner Music in 1966.
The app will feature interactive content, unpublished band images and artwork, rare video footage, music and more, and will be divided into several sections, including The Story, Miami Incident, Timeline, Cast of Characters, Doors Map, Gallery and My Favorites.
“The genesis of this project began with a desire to digitize the boxed set, to use new technology to improve upon a much-loved fan experience. It made total sense to choose The Doors. They have always been ‘ahead of the curve’ artists and their story is one of the great sagas in rock.” Holzman stated of the venture. “Together with the band, we tell a compelling tale using materials from The Doors’ own archives and the Warner Music vault plus the hundreds of other sources we chased down – a wealth of treasures including previously unseen photos, fresh interviews, and behind the scenes insights and reflections. Delivered in a single download, this is a riveting approach to showcasing a band's entire career.”
The Doors App is available now from the App Store on iPad for just $4.99.
