Ex-Van Halen member Michael Anthony called in to the radio show Eddie Trunk Live on Monday, opening up about many things including lead singer David Lee Roth’s recent flattering words about the bassist.
Diamond Dave told Rolling Stone in February that Anthony has “one of the greatest high tenor voices ever,” and would “always look forward” to a full Van Halen reunion with him included.
In response to the compliment, Anthony stated on the show, “It was flattering to hear Dave talk like that. He never used to talk like that when we were all playing together. [laughs] But hey… I really don’t know what to say to that. It was flattering that he said that.”
Anthony continued, “I don’t hold any kind of grudges for anything, and you never know what will happen at any time… At this point in your life and career and whatever, the career aside, it’s more about the friendship and just people. And if the music side of it, if that happens, if that comes about, all the better, but that’s not what it’s really about at this point.”
In the near future, Anthony also said he plans to tour with red rocker Sammy Hagar this summer and to reunite with their band Chickenfoot in the fall. Hagar also recently made some comments about the possibility of Van Halen reuniting with Anthony and himself, though no response has been issued from the band.
