When it was announced that Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora would be sitting out the rest of the band’s “Because We Can” tour due to “personal issues”, it’s no surprise that rumors began to fly.
Many assumed the problem stemmed from Sambora’s past issues with substance abuse; others predicted there was turmoil within the band, particularly between Sambora and frontman Jon Bon Jovi.
Now, reports have surfaced that it was a different Bon Jovi that pushed to get Sambora off the tour.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Dorothea Bon Jovi, Jon’s wife of over 20 years, urged her husband to replace the guitarist, due to her desire to keep the tour drug and alcohol free.
A source told Page Six that Sambora apparently “drinks constantly and has a stream of Hollywood bimbos around all the time.”
As of now, Sambora’s been replaced with Theofilos “Phil X” Xenidis; a guitarist who also stepped in for him during a 2011 rehab stint.
Bon Jovi is touring in support of their latest album, What About Now? Their next stop is in Austin, TX on April 10.
