If James Brown is the “godfather” of soul, then Iggy Pop is the “godfather” of punk, and this spring he will bestow a gift of a new album.
Wit much anticipation, Ready to Die, out April 30, is the first release from the Stooges since 2007’s The Weirdness. Oddly enough, it is not a follow-up to The Weirdness but to 1973’s Raw Powerthat guitarist James Williamson and drummer Scott Asheton will play as part of the band.
According to NME Iggy said, when explaining the need for a new Stooges album, “My motivation in making any record with the group at this point is no longer personal. It’s just a pig-headed f***king thing I have that a real f***king group when they’re an older group, they also make f***king records. They just don’t go and twiddle around on stage to make a bunch of f***king money.”
We expected nothing less than a classic Iggy answer!
“Burn” a single from the upcoming album has been released to the public, and is available for download on the Iggy Pop and the Stooges website and is streaming on SoundCloud.
Can’t wait for the album? A quick trip to Texas can take the edge off the wait. Iggy and the Stooges will return to SXSW, and are scheduled play at the House of Vans showcase on March 13.
