The all-star Love For Levon benefit concert held last October in East Rutherford, N.J., will be released on March 19, featuring performances by Roger Waters, Joe Walsh, the Allman Brothers Band's Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes, Jefferson Airplane's Jorma Kaukonen, and Garth Hudson, the late Levon Helm's groupmate in The Band.
The concert was executive produced by Keith Wortman, while Don Was, who previously teamed with Wortman on and the We Walk The Line: A Celebration of the Music of Johnny Cash concert, and the Levon Helm Band's Larry Campbell served as co-musical directors.
The assorted singers worked with a mix of Helm's band and an all-star group assembled by Was, and the 27-song set list is heavy on Band favorites, including a full-cast version of "The Weight" that closed the night.
"Love For Levon" will be released in several configurations, including CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray digipaks. Proceeds will help to maintain the Levon Helm Studio in Woodstock, N.Y., and continue the series of Midnight Ramble Sessions concerts there.
"Love For Levon" will also air February 17 on AXS-TV (formerly HDNet) and will be broadcast on PBS during its spring pledge drive. The full tracklisting for "Love For Levon" includes:
