After years of chasing the dream, Bruce Springsteen finally reached superstardom with his third album, Born to Run, today back in 1975.

With the album, Springsteen established himself as an artist to look out for, prompting writer Jon Landau to famously exclaim, “I saw rock and roll's future and its name is Bruce Springsteen," (via RockHall.com)

With its imposing beats, keyboards, lots of guitar and those signature raspy vocals – Born to Run easily made its way into American ears and hearts.

Songs like “Thunder Road”, “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out”, “Jungleland”, and of course, the title track “Born to Run”, made the record an American icon, and took Bruce Springsteen along for the ride.

Here are a few facts about the album:

  • Born to Run was certified Gold only a month after its release; it eventually was certified 6X Platinum
  • Following the release, Springsteen was simultaneously featured on the covers of Newsweek and Time
  • Springsteen launched his first nationwide tour following Born to Run
  • The album is ranked #18 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

Since the album’s release, Springsteen’s definitely had his share of success, selling millions of records and filling countless venues on world tours, but it was this American classic that made it all possible for The Boss.
