Seven years ago today we lost Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett too early to pancreatic cancer, at age 60.
Though his time with the band was limited, his influence on their music was extraordinary, including penning almost all of their early material, including The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
Troubled as he was, there were few such important figures to psychedelic music as Syd Barrett.
His solo career after his departure from the band was moderately successful, but Syd will always remembered for that dynamic partnership with Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Rick Wright that produced Pink Floyd and some of the most incredible music of their time.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond; you are greatly missed.
