‘Rocket Man’ and pop legend Elton John along with newcomers Mumford & Sons will perform a special tribute to the late Levon Helms at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, the Associated Press reports.
The drummer and lead singer of The Band died last year from throat cancer at the age of 71, and while he may be gone he is certainly not forgotten!
Musician and super-producer T Bone Burnett, soul singer Mavis Staples, and current Grammy Nominees Zac Brown and Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard will also give a rendition of “The Weight” at the ceremony.
Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich noted the diverse mix of artists will honor Helm’s unique sound, stating “Generationally it's very mixed, and genre-wise it's certainly mixed, and ... that's what [Helm] was all about. He was about old and young, country and pop. He was this incredibly eclectic artist."
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles this Sunday at 8PM on CBS.
