Listening on a Mac?

The WCSX live stream is compatible with with computers running OSX. Mac users can download Windows Media Player for OSX here.

Additionally some users may be able to listen via Quicktime using the free Flip4Mac plugin or with the highly compatible free VLC player.

iTunes and Real Player do not currently support Windows Media streaming.

Online Audio and Video

Here are a couple things you should know about the stream:

  • Due to legalities, we are unable to stream our over-the-air commercials.  So, when you hear your favorite Classic Jock say, "we'll be right back,"  the stuff you hear on the webstream for the next few minutes is web-exclusive content, including 'CSX A-to-Z deep tracks and stuff about 'CSX we think you want to know.  When the on-air ads end, the webstream rejoins our on-air programming.
  • The webstream is Windows-Media based due to the ubiquity of Microsoft operating systems on our listeners' machines.  We have, however, successfully tested the stream on Macs and with the IE, FireFox, and Safari browsers.  Just make sure that you have the Windows Media Player and the right plug-ins (see below).  The stream is not compatible with Real, iTunes, Quicktime, or other media players.

What you need to listen
1. An internet connection over 32k. This means a 56k modem, cable, DSL, or most at-work connections should work. The slower your connection, the longer the webstream will take to buffer, and the more buffering you will experience while you are listening. Also, the more applications you have open on your machine may affect buffering and stream performance.

2. Windows Media Player [download it here]

3. A sound card in your computer and speakers or headphones. Most computers purchased within the last few years came with both.

Having problems connecting to the stream?
1. Are you at work? Some company networks are behind a firewall that does not allow the webstream through. Check with your friendly IT person.

2. Windows Media Player must be set to use HTTP protocol with no other ports selected.

3. Make sure you have your streaming protocols and Streaming proxy settings set on your Windows Media Player. They're located on the Windows Media Player at Tools > Options> Network. Not sure? Ask that IT person.

4. If the stream cuts in and out, there may be limited bandwidth available on your home/business network which is causing extra buffering (definition).

5. WCSX.com streams in Advanced Streaming Format, or ASF, so make sure the Windows Media Player is set to be the default player for ASF files. That's located on the Windows Media Player at Tools > Options> File Types.

6. Try upgrading or re-installing Windows Media 10.  Media settings on your computer can change when you install other applications, corrupting your Windows Media Player settings.  Reinstalling Window Media Player is the easiest way to fix this.
