After weeks of teasing, the Rolling Stones have finally revealed their first North American concert dates of 2013!
The band announced today (April 3) that their “50 and Counting Tour” will take them through Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, Anaheim, Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia, beginning in just a few weeks.
Though the Stones celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, playing concerts in New York and London, it’s been said that the infamous group truly considers 2013 to be their 50th year, as drummer Charlie Watts didn’t technically join the band until January of 1963.
Regardless, 2012 was a hugely busy year for the British rockers, who released the greatest hits album GRRR!, as well as the documentary Crossfire Hurricane and the photo book “Rolling Stones: 50.” The Stones were also one of the headlining acts for the 12-12-12 concert for Hurricane Sandy Relief in December.
In the official press release, frontman Mick Jagger stated what fans can expect from their upcoming concerts:
“It’s a good show. Lots of the classic stuff everyone wants to hear…with a few little gems tucked in here and there. The stage is shaped like lips and goes off into the venue so I get to run around in the crowd. It’s great fun to be able to get that close to the audience.”
Guitarist Keith Richards added, “From day one at rehearsals it sounded so fresh. You could tell that everybody was dying to get their teeth into it. It was like…open the gates…let us out! Cause man, it is the life and blood of us to play in front of people.”
The band’s setlist is rumored to include classics like “Paint it Black,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Jumping Jack Flash” and “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” and concert goers may also anticipate hearing some of their latest music, including 2012’s “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot.”
Guitarist Mick Taylor is expected to join The Rolling Stones for several dates.
Tickets for the concerts in Oakland, San Jose, Toronto and Chicago go on sale on April 8 @ 10am PST, though several of the other cities are still marked as TBA. The band is also set to play at London’s Hyde Part on July 6, and recently announced a headlining spot for the UK’s Glastonbury Festival on June 29.
