The music world has been shocked by news that Neil Young has filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years, Pegi.
Young filed papers for a dissolution of marriage on July 29 in San Mateo, Calif., but the news hasn't surfaced until now. Young met Pegi during the mid-70s when she was a waitress in northern California, and the two have long assumed to be one of music's tightest couples; she's the acknowledged inspiration for Young songs such as "Such a Woman," "Once an Angel" and "Unknown Legend."
Pegi sang as part of Young's band on several tours and albums and has recorded three albums of her own, and in 1986, inspired by their son Ben's battle with cerebral palsy, founded the Bridge School to educate children with severe physical and cognitive impairments.
Both Youngs were slated to perform at this year`s Farm Aid concert on September 13 in Raleigh, N.C., but Pegi's name has been removed from the lineup. A hearing on the divorce is scheduled for December 12.
