When one thinks of Keith Richards, the title of “children’s book author” isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind, but the grandfather of five is about to release his very first children’s book next month, with illustrations by his daughter, Theodora.
The father and daughter sat down with Harper’s Bazaar recently to discuss Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar, which tells the story of how Keith’s grandfather introduced him to music, and it sounds like the two had a really great time working together. However, Theodora did have to make her drawings more…appropriate for the book.
“I drew a woman with a baby in her arms and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth,” said Theodora. “They were like, ‘Darling, this is a children’s book. We can’t have that.’”
Oh…like father like daughter!
The entire interview is a great read, if only to hear about Keith’s loving grandfather side, which is apparently a lot less Jack Sparrow-y than you’d think.
The book comes out September 9th, but it is available for pre-order at Amazon.
