This week brings new releases and reissues from Classic Rock legends ranging from KISS to The Stones and even a tribute to Gregg Allman.
KISS, "Love Gun," "Asylum," "Creatures of the Night," "MTV Unplugged," "Psycho Circus" (UMe):
The second set of vinyl reissues from the KISS katalog vinyl reissues includes a couple of 80s favorites as well as the acoustic collection that brought Ace Frehley and Peter Criss back into the fold and led to 1998's "Psycho Circus," the first studio set from KISS' original lineup in 19 years.
Rolling Stones, "12x5," "Get Yer Ya-Yas Out!," "Through the Past Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2)" (ABKCO):
Yeah, the Stones catalog gets reissued at pretty regular interviews, but these clear vinyl editions will play well to anyone who's dusted off their turntable -- or hooked up a new one.
Santana, "Corazon" (RCA):
Surprisingly this is the first full-on Santana Latin-focused album in the group's 46-year history. Carlos' guitar playing is on fire throughout these 15 tracks, and the guest list includes Ziggy Marley on a remake of his father's "Iron Lion Zion" while jazz great Wayne Shorter and Santana's wife Cindy Blackman appear on "Yo Soy La Luz."
Styx and Foreigner, "The Soundtrack of Summer" (WalMart):
The two rock titans accompany their summer tour with this collection of hits, which also includes a new version of the Eagles' "Hotel California" with tour mate Don Felder and, on the vinyl and digital editions, a fresh treatment of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" with help from Felder and Styx members.
Various Artists, "All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman" (Rounder):
His biopic may be going down in flames, but Allman's music stands tall and strong on this CD and DVD souvenir from the January tribute concert in Atlanta. Jackson Browse, Dr. John, Sam Moore, Allman's son Devon and the Allman Brothers Band were on hand for this loving salute.
