Paul Rodgers To Receive Music Biz Chairman’s Award

LAS VEGAS - MAY 25: Musician Paul Rodgers performs during the VH1 Rock Honors at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on May 25, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Paul Rodgers
is about to be honored by the Music Business Association at the organization’s Music Biz 2014 conference May 6-8 in Los Angeles.

Rodgers will receive the Music Biz Chairman`s Award as “a shining example of everything the Chairman’s Award stands for,” according to Rachelle Friedman, chair of the Music Biz Board of Directors. “He has not only achieved tremendous success throughout his long career but also continues to produce high-quality music today.”

That would include “The Royal Sessions,” Rodgers set of soul music covers that was recorded mostly at Memphis’s famed Royal Studios and released in February.

The career honor also includes Rodgers’ stints in bands such as Free, Bad Company, the Firm, the Law and Queen, as well as his previous solo work. Rodgers is currently playing shows to promote “The Royal Sessions” and is locked into the Rock Legends Cruise next February; he’ll be on the road this summer with Bad Company, which begins an 11-date North American run – mostly with Lynyrd Skynyrd – on July 8 in Rama, Ontario.

Rodgers is also due for a set of new original material, something he hasn’t done since 2000’s “Electric” but that he tells us he’s working on with regular collaborator Perry Margouleff:

Paul Rodgers on writing new songs with Perry Margouleff by GMI Rock News

“Perry and I have been writing songs over the years for a number of years now, just writing demos with a view to at some point put an album together, and we haven’t gotten that far. We’ve released one song which is called ‘With Our Love,’ and we sent all the proceeds to a horse sanctuary in New York, and we saved a bunch of horses, which we are proud to do with our music, actually. But as far as the album is concerned we have quite a few songs and we’re writing constantly in-between other events that we’re doing...So as far as the solo album is concerned it’s a little bit on the back burner at the moment. In the next couple years, I mean, it’s definitely on the cards.”
