Ian Anderson Announces 34-Date U.S. Tour

BYRON BAY, AUSTRALIA - APRIL 25: Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull performs on stage during day five of the Bluesfest Music Festival at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm on April 25, 2011 in Byron Bay, Australia.
Ian Anderson
has unveiled the dates for his upcoming U.S. tour, an eight-and-a-half week trek that starts September 12 in Seattle and wraps up November 10 in Montclair, N.J.

The U.S. shows will follow a European run that starts April 28 in the U.K., all promoting the Jethro Tull founder's new solo album, "Homo Erraticus." Anderson tells us that he has a few surprises planned for the shows, too:

"It's a production tour with the new album in the first half, a 20-minute intermission, then we go back and play a selection of the best of Jethro Tull's sort of classic songs and a few that...I think I can remember in the case of each of them, we played them probably once, maybe on one tour or maybe just a couple of times...but not, certainly not in the last 40 years or so. So it's kind of interesting to find three songs I've always discounted doing again...because these three pieces are quite well-known pieces by Jethro Tull, just things that have been left out of the live repertoire before."

"Homo Erraticus" came out Tuesday (April 15) and is Anderson's third "collaboration" with the fictional Gerald Bostock, a character he first introduced on 1972's "Thick as a Brick" and returned to for 2012's "Thick as a Brick 2."
