Recordings From U2, Linda Ronstadt Added To National Recording Registry

The Library of Congress has added several classic rock titles to its National Recording Registry, including albums by U2 ("The Joshua Tree"), upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Linda Ronstadt ("Heart Like a Wheel") and Isaac Hayes ("Theme From Shaft").

Also among this year's 25 choices are Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son," the Everly Brothers's "Cathy's Clown" and Elmore James's influential, and frequently covered, blues classic "Dust My Broom."

The Registry, which adds a new 25 titles each year chosen by the National Recording Preservation Board, now boasts 400 recordings, though the Library of Congress' actual recorded sound collection contains more than 3.5 million items. The Registry recordings are kept at the Library's Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Va.
