Complaint Letter from John Lennon to Phil Spector Up For Auction

A 1975 letter from John Lennon to producer Phil Spector is a star attraction at an auction that begins today (March 21).

The undated, hand-written note is titled "A Matter of Pee" and informs Spector that Lennon's mates Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson urinated on a recording console during the making of Lennon's "Rock 'n' Roll" covers album. Lennon advises that, "Should you not yet know, it was Harry and Keith who pissed on the console" and writes that if the studio -- presumably A&M Studios in Los Angeles -- wanted to evict the sessions, it should "bill Capitol (Record) for the damage if any. I can't be expected to mind ADULT rock stars..."

The letter belongs to the estate of the late guitarist and Lennon sidekick Jesse Ed Davis and is expected to fetch as much as $9,900, according to the Cooper Owen auction house. The auction also includes four Lennon drawings owned by Davis, who played on Lennon's "Walls and Bridges" and "Rock 'n' Roll" albums as well as the Lennon-produced "Pussy Cats" for Nilsson.
