Foghat is back with a new single!
The “Slow Ride” singers made the decision to bring their fans into the loop on their latest tune, creating a contest that challenged people to write lyrics to go with the band’s instrumental song “495 Boogie;” a track originally from their 2010 LP Last Train Home,
Phil Dessinger was deemed the winner by the members of the band along with special judges Jeb Wright of ClassicRockRevisited.com and NYC radio personality Ken Dashow. The mashed-up single, entitled “The Word of Rock n’ Roll” was released on Tuesday, July 9 via Foghat Records and is available on iTunes.
The idea for the contest came when Classic Rock DJ Charlie Ocean dubbed lyrics over “495 Boogie” for fun, and sent it to the band as a track named “Big American Blonde.” Foghat liked the idea so much that they decided to expand upon it, making the same opportunity available to fans. Ocean’s unfortunate death in 2011 put the contest into limbo, but the band revived the idea in the fall of 2012 as a tribute to the late DJ.
Foghat is currently on tour, with dates scheduled well into the fall.
