Top 5 Green Things to Celebrate St. Paddy's Day
By: Zooby Qizilbash

It’s that time of year again.  Pour a pint, kiss ‘em if they’re Irish, wear your green with pride. St. Patrick’s Day is here and with that comes the high of knowing winter is close to over and spring has nearly sprung! Opening day baseball is so close that fans can smell the fresh cut green grass.

To help get you in the mood for the festivities, we’ve made a list of the Top Five Green Things that rock!

1.  The Hulk

The man, the myth, the icon.  No we aren’t talking about the Hulkster here, brother.  We’re talking about the man with a bit of an anger issue. The Hulk is as iconic as a leprechaun when it comes to someone associated with the color green.

According to, Dr. Bruce Banner was transformed when he was exposed to a massive amount of gamma radiation.  Banner was dubbed “the Hulk” by military personnel.  From the megahit film ‘The Avengers’ this summer, The Hulk is as relevant as ever.

2. Al Green

The Reverend.  A magical singer to say the least, Al Green is one of the most iconic singers around.

Albert Greene aka Al Green is a soul music and American gospel singer who has given us legendary tunes such as “I’m Still In Love With You,”  “Tired of Being Alone” and “Let’s Stay Together.”  Rolling Stone ranked Green as the 14th greatest singer on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers.

 3. Money

Gordon Gekko said “Greed is good.”  We use coupons to save a few bucks; we can’t wait for that tax check to come in the mail every spring and a good bonus at the end of the year.

Money is a staple in society from the young days where we set up a lemonade stand to earn a few dollars.  In turn, that money would be used to chase down the ice cream truck whenever you heard that magical music playing.

Needless to say, money is what makes the world go around.

 4. Green Eggs & Ham

There are a few staples that will never get old when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day.  Starting the day off with some green eggs and ham is as traditional it gets.

“I would not like them here or there, I would not like them anywhere,” are just a few words from the memorable Dr. Seuss tale.  “I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am.” Of course, we all know that in the end, he ends up changing his mind.

 5. Jolly Green Giant

One of the most recognized icons in the advertising world, the Jolly Green Giant has been around since the 1920s! The mascot of Green Giant has a statue in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Recently, the figure has taken on a change in personality. According to the, the marketing manager of the Green Giant brand says, “the idea is to evolve the giant from protector of the land to really a more friendly and approachable character.”

Here’s hoping that the kind Giant stays around to keep reminding us to eat our veggies!
