Sir Paul McCartney
has achieved it all in his career.  He has received a high level of honors in the United States, Great Britain and France. He has won at the Academy Awards, the BAFTA’s and at the Grammys.

But a man who was a part of one of the biggest bands of all-time still finds time to achieve a first here and there.

On Sunday night, McCartney won an award that will stand alone in his crowded trophy case.  For the first time, Sir Paul won the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, after being nominated for his 2012 effort, ‘Kisses On The Bottom.’  The win marked McCartney’s first solo album to win the top honor in its category, as well as his first win for an album of newly recorded material since The Beatles’Let It Be in 1971.

The Best Historical Album of the night went to the The Beach Boys, who won the Grammy for their album ‘The Smile Sessions (Deluxe Boxed Set)’ and received their first career Grammy!  According to the Hollywood Reporter, frontman Brian Wilson gave some brief and to the point comments backstage after the win, but when asked about a possibility of a Beach Boys reunion, Wilson quickly replied, “I doubt it, no.”

Other Grammy winners included Bonnie Raitt for Best Americana Album, Dr. John for Best Blues Album and the late Ravi Shankar received the Lifetime Achievement Award, which daughter Nora Jones accepted on his behalf.

The night also held a touching tribute to the late Levon Helm, with greats like T Bone Burnett, Elton John, and Mavis Staples performing a rendition of The Band’sThe Weight.” Bob Marley was also remembered, when Sting took the stage with some contemporary counterparts to pay tribute to the Reggae legend.

On a night where a list of new names graced the stage, it was the familiar faces that left the true impression. When we can report that the 2013 Grammys included a win from Paul McCartney and performances from Sting and Elton John, it’s a good day for Rock and Roll!
