UN-PLANTED

Robert Plant did an interview lately and unless he changes his world view, you can really plant Led Zeppelin for good.  Two things stood out.  First he feels light years from the guy that 30-40 years ago,  was thee rock god 24/7.  He also doesn't want to be trapped in a dog and pony nostalgia show that never reaches the soaring heights of yesteryear. Just listen to that first Zeppelin album.  Half of the vocals are either looong majestic screams, or breathing hard.  To have to muster that night after night, over Jimmy Page's thundering guitar, is truly a young man's task.
Second, and more scary for Zepp fans is Plant's new found direction with his new unit, Band of Joy.  He's developed a huge appreciation for American Appalacian music. Apparently a lot of those folk ballads of the Britsh Isles died over there, but livied on over here thanks to them hill folk.  Plant said, "At it's root, Gallows Pole is an Elizabethan ballad."  He's gone so far as to listen to Smithsonian recordings of some of the early stuff for ideas and because it's a fascinating new musical world for him.  Shoot..the old guy's got a new hobby...
