Friday Football Picks

Back in the good old days, this weekend was for all the marbles. Michigan and Ohio State to decide the Big Ten title and give one state bragging rights for another year. And even in years when one team was below the other, there was still the chance to play spoiler and ruin another team's Rose Bowl aspirations.

And now we have 2009. Ohio State is the behemoth and Michigan is the pipsqueak. It's so bad and screwy that Ohio State is the favorite AND the spoiler. Their fate is already sealed. They're going to Pasadena. So the only thing really riding on this game (other than Rich Rodriguez' job) is a spot in the Little Caeser's Bowl. Yep, instead of a trip to southern California - Michigan is fighting for a trip to Detroit for the holidays. So the Buckeyes can not only extend their long winning streak against ...

Marriage proposal doesn't go well

I'm not a big fan of stadium marriage proposals - so I take a certain amount of glee at this horribly uncomfortable situation. Watch again to see the reaction of all of the people around the dude after his girlfriend runs off.

Friday Football Picks

I've always said that Detroit is a football town. Sure it's been called "Hockeytown" and TigerTown - but nothing compares to football. If the Red Wings or the Tigers ever put up a decade like the Lions have put up (and the Tigers did!), there would be zero passion for the teams. But only this year are the Lions starting to deal with consistent blackouts. And even then, people still fiercely debate Matthew Stafford v. Daunte Culpepper or this years team v. last years team or Kevin Smith v. Barry Sanders. (Well...not really).

So isn't it utterly pathetic that it's come to this in Detroit. We're desperately searching for one more win for both Michigan and Michigan State just so they can get bowl eligible. And we're agonizing over whether the Lions just might catch lightning in a bottle....and stay within seventeen points of the Vikings. Is this the worst ...
