Justin Verlander didn't want to spend too much time looking at video or tweaking his mechanics after one of the worst starts of his impressive career Thursday. Instead, he put in a little extra work on the mound to prepare for Wednesday's matchup with Ubaldo Jimenez and the American League Central-leading Indians at Progressive Field.

The immediate impact of Tuesday's 5-1 Tigers win on the standings was incremental, moving Detroit within a game and a half of Cleveland in the division. The fearsome part is looking ahead at what Miguel Cabrera could mean in the race over the coming weeks if he keeps hitting like he has.

Sunday night was a performance to behold for at least one Tiger, even if it was in defeat. As Matt Tuiasosopo stepped to the plate time and again, only to toss his bat and take his base, he was walking his way to a career best.
