That’s exactly what’s happening with the planned release of a new Jimi Hendrix album.

Veteran recording engineer Eddie Kramer mixed the 12 tracks that make up the new album, which bears the title Valleys Of Neptune. Those tracks were recorded by Hendrix over a period of four months during 1969, approximately a year before his untimely death at the age of 27.

He obviously holds Hendrix in high esteem, offering advice to young guitarists who are hoping to make their mark on the music scene. According to Kramer, if you want to play guitar, you should listen to Jimi Hendrix play first. Advice that probably not too many seasoned musicians would argue with.

What may be even more amazing than the release of this new album is what Hendrix’s sister had to ...

Aerosmith Coming Togather

I’ve seen a whirlwind of speculation and rumors ever since last summer’s Aerosmith tour with ZZ Top went down the tubes following the mishap that landed Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler in the hospital.

Since then, there has been word of strange behavior on the part of Tyler coming from some of the other members of the group, along with persistent rumors about alcohol or drug abuse that were finally put to rest when Tyler checked himself into rehab for addiction to prescription pain-killers.
Although Tyler’s bizarre behavior may still have tongues wagging after his impromptu Home Depot performance a few weeks ago, and with the threat of lawsuits hanging heavy in the air shortly thereafter, it seems like the Bad Boys From Boston may be making progress, and planning to welcome Tyler back as soon as he is able.

For several weeks American radio stations had been saturating the airwaves with Beatles music. The power of radio had led to sales of millions of Beatles singles and albums. For weeks, the country had been warned "The Beatles Are Coming!" The American press picked up on the story, with several magazines and newspapers running feature stories on the group. Two days earlier, CBS and ABC showed film of The Beatles' arrival in America at New York's Kennedy Airport on their evening news shows. But the big event was The Beatles' first live appearance on American television, which took place on the country's most popular variety program, "The Ed Sullivan Show".
The excitement began shortly after 8 p.m. EST when Sullivan gave his famous introduction: "Now yesterday and today our theatre's ...

Romantic Confirmed for Ringos Allstars

Ringo Starr has confirmed that Wally Palmar from Detroit's Romantics will be part of his All Starr Band this year. Though begging off other names, Starr did confirm to The Insider that Palmar would be part of the troupe, which will be on the road in support of the Beatle drummer's new album, "Y Not," which comes out Tuesday (January 12th). "It's great for me to play live," Starr said. "I have such a good time. So far the bands have all been supportive, and we've had fun." Palmar, who's expecting to perform the Romantics hits "What I Like About You" and "Talking In Your Sleep," told The Insider that he's excited about the All Starr gig: "Between (the Beatles) and the (Rolling Stones) and the Yardbirds...all that stuff is what I grew up with. Anybody I spoke to about this, which is only a very select group of musicians, ...

The Zeppelin Stamp!

England’s Royal Mail is releasing stamps that feature classic British album covers. One of the featured covers is from Led Zeppelin’s untitled fourth album. Guitarist Jimmy Page marked the occasion by speaking with NME.com about that cover, saying, “Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him. That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time.”

McCartney Finds Discrepancy in Lennon Film

Paul McCartney is reportedly at odds with director Sam Taylor Wood over her depiction of John Lennon's Aunt Mimi in Nowhere Boy, the upcoming biopic about his old bandmate.
The script originally portrayed Aunt Mimi as a tough-minded disciplinarian, though that depiction was found to be a stretch by McCartney.
After a request by McCartney, Wood changed Aunt Mimi's tone and showed her deference to the musical legend with a personal invitation to a screening, which McCartney rejected.
"I said 'Sam, this isn't true.' Aunt Mimi was not cruel," he said. "She was mock strict. But she was a good heart who loved John madly."
The role of Aunt Mimi is played by Kristin Scott Thomas, who shared her own perspective.
The film enjoyed its debut at at the 2009 London Film Festival on October 29th, and is scheduled for a US release at ...

Album Of The Week

Yes released their fourth album, Fragile on January 4, 1972, a scant six months after Rick Wakeman left the Strawbs and joined Yes bringing synthesizers and another strong classical music background to a band on verge of breakthrough. While contractual issues precluded any official credit for his keyboard and co-writing work on the album, Wakeman’s presence solidified the band, their sound and their place in rock history. Fragile quickly rose to #4 on the Billboard 200 and pushed the band to the forefront of the burgeoning prog-rock movement.
The whole affair owes everything to the surprise hit single version of the 8-plus minute “Roundabout,” which became a cross-over AM and heavy FM hit after a shortened version was released as a single. That extremely unusual achievement lifted an otherwise excellent prog-rock album to unheard of heights and began a nearly 40 year reign for Yes as the quintessential and longest-running prog-rock ...

Looking Forward to 2010

I see a lot of stories around this time of year about what was. Instead of looking back, I’m going to look forward. The new year looks like it will be an interesting one for classic rock fans. A number of our old favorites will be going on tour or releasing a new album. There’s clearly a lot of demand out there for the music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, and fortunately, many of the big names from those decades are still going strong.
Yes resumes their tour next month on the 4th at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, NH. Still no Jon Anderson, but as long as he stays healthy, there may be a chance we’ll see him fronting the group again some day.
Although it has not been confirmed, the Rolling Stones are said to be preparing for a world tour sometime this year. In April, Bad ...

Aerosmith still up in the air for the new year

I)

It’s beginning to look more and more like Steven Tyler is a man with a lot of turmoil in his life. Road manager Henry Smith is saying that Tyler hasn’t been free of substance abuse problems for the last 18 years. It is also being reported that Tyler is enduring a lot of pain due to shoulder and foot problems. Tyler injured his shoulder badly during a fall from the stage while performing at the Sturgis motorcycle rally in back in August.

Since then, the future of the group is uncertain at best. With conflicting statements coming from various sources about whether Tyler is taking a couple of years off from Aerosmith to work on some solo projects, or is just taking a little time off to work on his autobiography.
If reports of the “tremendous pain” that is plaguing Tyler is true, it’s not too hard to imagine ...

2010 Will be big for Jimmy Page

2010 will be a big year for Jimmy Page fans because the Led Zeppelin guitarist revealed he plans to debut some new music in the new year. In an interview with Sky News, the rocker said, “Next year, I have every intention of playing music live and making it – manifesting it… I’ve got the music waiting. It just needs to be done. So that’s it. That’s what I’ll be doing.”
