Highway to health

It's time to go see Dr. Wood again...time to get another fill in my Lap Band from Harper BMI <sp>. What does that mean? It's when they put more saline in to restrict the flow and make a smaller pouch. What else does it mean? It means I'm sticking with the plan and doing something I hadn't done in the past decade, go see my doctors and LISTEN! Amazing to think about how much time I wasted in my life by ignoring the signs and not dealing with food related issues. Does this mean I've completely won my struggle with food and controlling my weight? nope. But here's what it does mean:
For the first time in a long time I can see myself back in the shape I was in the U.S. Navy (6'5" / 250 is the goal). I've hit some bumps in the road, and it's amazing ...

Monday - Monday - Monday...I used to dread the day. Not because of going to work (have a great job - really do). I didn't like the feeling of no energy after work, and how I wanted to nap and sleep and eat. The idea of doing anything around the house was painful -- to the point I avoided stuff until the weekend, then tried to cram everything in one day.
Well, I've lost over 70 pounds since weight loss surgery from Harper BMI <sp> and what's my Monday like? Full day at work, got a one hour workout in, grabbed a quick nap, worked in the yard, cooked some dinner and then ran a couple of errands before going to bed early.
Why am I sharing my day with you? Because anyone who's had weight issues knows what I'm talking about -- the struggle to keep your energy level ...

Kelvin Tripplett is an amazing person -- he's lost over 300 pounds in 18 months after weight loss surgery at Harper BMI <sp>...I can't think of a better story, take a couple minutes out of your day and listen:

So for most of 2011 I’ve told you about my “Highway To Health” – dealing with my weight and weight loss surgery from Harper BMI <sp>. I’ve talked about dealing with food addiction, head hunger, self esteem and the weight loss “yo yo”.
Now I want to talk to you and give you two simple words to take with you today… “It’s Time”.
- It’s time for you to deal with your weight issues
- It’s time to start taking care of yourself
- It’s time to take that first step and learn about weight loss surgery
This Saturday from 10am – noon at Harper Hospital it’s a FREE weight loss seminar…free valet parking, a chance to talk with people who’ve had weight loss surgery and most importantly – meet the team from Harper BMI <sp> and find out about the procedure (Dr. Woods, Dr. Hendricks, etc).

I’ve lost over 70lbs. in 5 ½ months since my weight loss surgery from Harper BMI <sp>, and this weekend was one of the first times I realized how far I’ve come (in large part to your support…thanks for following this journey).
I rented a tuxedo for the DMC Guild fundraiser at Andiamo’s that I hosted (with Joan Rivers…nice lady, great event). It was the first time in years that I wore a tux…and I have to admit I felt pretty damn good about myself! I know I’ve got a long way to go, and honestly I’m halfway to my ideal weight – but it felt good to step out and see myself in a positive light.
You always hear the saying “dress for success” – I believe it now. When you struggle with your weight, you tend to wear baggy clothes and hide behind them. Buying new clothes becomes a chore, and it’s ...

Was thinking about this on the way to work this morning at 3:30am (it’s very quiet on Telegraph that time of day). I’ve lost around 70 pounds in over 5 months since weight loss surgery, and feel better than I have in years. My neighbors even commented on how I look yesterday. So why do I have this unsettled feeling in my stomach?
It’s the “nervous season” for anyone who’s ever been on a diet – once you’ve had success, the bad habits start creeping back in. I’m struggling with that over the past couple of weeks – and believe me, the lap band has helped (a lot).
I’m taking this week to refocus myself on the plan that was set up for me by Harper BMI <sp>. Why am I telling you this? Because I’m not perfect, and I will make mistakes along the way – but I know ...

Hard to believe it’s been almost five months since my weight loss surgery from Harper BMI <sp>. I’ve lost over 65lbs. since the surgery on March 30th (it hasn’t been easy, but it’s been consistent and I feel in control of my life for the first time in a decade).
Went camping last week with my family at Waldenwoods in Hartland, MI. and it wasn’t until I got home yesterday (Sunday) that I realized what I had done:
- Taken a three mile hike with my son (steep hills, mostly dirt, felt great – didn’t lose my breath and wanted to keep going)
- Tennis with my 14 year old (could actually move around the court without my knees aching)
- Up every morning and active with the family (swimming, walking everywhere)
My point is this – losing weight isn’t just about how you look, it’s also about how ...
